Live Your Best Year Ever

As the New Year begins, it’s natural that we all reflect on how we want to live and what resolutions we want to make. Today, I want to show you how to make sure you fulfill them and make this the best year of your life.
Every year people make a “resolution” to make that change for good once and for all. You may even get started for a couple of weeks excited to be gaining some momentum. The next thing you know, life shows up, and slowly our motivation disappears.

To be honest, I am actually not a huge fan of New Years Resolutions. I don’t believe that we should only set goals once a year. Once a year isn’t the only time we should review our lives to make sure we are on track. High performers, people who perform better than average in all areas of their life, evaluate their life weekly and daily and choose intentional actions to design their life.

What I do believe in is taking the time at the end of the year to evaluate your life. Deciding what’s important this year and what you are truly committed to having in your life. And, deciding what you need to let go of that is no longer serving you. It’s not about making a couple of goals that are really just wishes we know aren’t going to happen. I am going to show you some of the key elements for powerfully designing and living your best year ever.
There are some powerful pieces in this which have worked with me and the hundreds of clients that I have coached. That being said, keep an open mind and test them out for awhile. As you learn and grow, take what works best for you and adapt it to your style and preferences.

Are you ready for this year to be different? Are you ready for this to be your best year ever? Are you ready to become someone who commits and acts on the things that matter most to you?
If you answered yes to those questions, then let’s get started.

I. Complete Last Year:

One of the things most of us forget to do is leave the past in the past. Your past doesn’t equal the future. Your future can be completely different than anything you have ever experienced. This is true, only if we leave the past in the past. Unfortunately, our brain only sees what we believe. It filters based on our beliefs and not based on reality. Typically our beliefs are created by our past through experience and education.
Here are some compelling questions for completing your last year. In our Live Your Best Year seminars, we have a process for integrating your successes and allowing you to let go of past disappointments.
What were your biggest successes from last year?

What were your three most significant life lessons from last year?

What were you doing when you were most successful?

What were your biggest disappointments?

How did you hold yourself back last year?

What were the costs of doing this?

What were the payoffs?

Take at least 20-30 minutes to review your year and answer these questions. There are some great insights and new awareness available to you. Remember to stay in a state of awareness and growth. Shame and guilt serve no purpose here.

II. Decide What You Want

Most of the time people jump into the New Year with vague goals like losing weight, save money, eat healthier, learn a hobby. This rarely works for multiple reasons. First of all, it’s not specific enough. Clarity brings focus and power. Our brains are continually directing us towards finding the answers. The more specific you are, the better answers you will receive.

Secondly, those goals are boring and are set with minimal commitment. You should set goals that would change your life and excite you.

What’s more exciting? Losing 20lbs or finally dropping the 50-60 lbs uncovering your lean and powerful body? Even better, would be to add why you want that body and what you will do with it.

Here’s what I want you to do instead:
Imagine yourself as if you are ten years old at Christmas and you can ask for anything you want knowing that Santa will bring it:
Freely write for at least 15 minutes

  • Health
  • Dreams
  • Hobbies
  • Relationships
  • Financial dreams
  • Travel
  • Lifestyle
  • Career Dreams
  • Contribution
  • Home

As you do this, don’t worry about the how of it. Just let yourself dream and imagine. Look at your list. Does it excite you? If not, you didn’t dream big enough. Try again and just let yourself play. Does it scare you a bit? If not, make it 10x’s bigger. Let these goals stretch you into the person capable of creating this reality. Trust me; you can live whatever you can dream.

Pick four good ones to accomplish by the end of the year. Keep this list somewhere safe, but keep 4 of them written in a place you can review regularly.

III. Commit

Now, you probably have commitment issues. Don’t worry, most of us do. We don’t make real commitments. It’s normal in our society to carelessly say something is going to happen and then make excuses for why we never get started. You must commit to creating these outcomes.

This doesn’t mean you know how this will happen. I don’t know how most of my goals will be accomplished. What I do know is that I am committed to finding the help and the answers to making all my dreams a reality.

Whenever we set goals, 3 things show up. Obstacles, Fears, and Concerns
You are going to question whether they are possible. Am I too young, too old, smart enough, pretty enough, and the list goes on… our fears that we have to face, and any obstacle like lack of resources and time. Most people take this as a sign to quit. You won’t do this. You will know this is normal and commit to achieving your dreams anyway. This will transform how you see your self, your confidence, and your whole life.

IV. Find an Accountability Partner, Mentor, And Coach

One of the most influential things you do to show commitment is to hire a coach and mentor. Each one has its benefits, and personally, I have all of them at once for the areas that matter most to me.
When people come to us for training, sometimes they ask “Can’t I just do it myself?” Sure you could. Has that worked out?
When you keep your goals to yourself, it’s just too easy to go by feeling. Day 1 you feel like getting in shape, so you go to the gym. Day 2 you don’t so you don’t. Day 3 you do, Day 4,5,6,7 you don’t. Thus your goals fade away. Not only that, do you have the knowledge and skills to reach your goals? I studied fitness and lifting for ten years before I felt like I had it figured out. I was obsessed. Will you last that long?

Accountability Partner: find someone who you commit to specific actions and keep your commitment. By sending weekly updates to an accountability partner, you are 64% more likely to accomplish your goal.

Mentor: Success leaves clues. Find someone who already has done what you want to do. As with the personal training, sure you could try to learn it all yourself. A mentor could save you several years of trial and error.

Coach: A mentor could coach you; however, I see a coach slight differently. When someone coaches, it’s more than just sharing the tips. They help you uncover the things you don’t necessarily want to take a look at. They do it in a way that causes you to expand and experience a new reality. Coaches will hold you accountable, show you a new way, and expand your possibilities.

If you follow these four steps, your life will never be the same. You will be well on your way to living your best year ever. Every step is powerful and vital. My personal belief is that step 4 is probably the most important for fulfillment. Most people do not follow through on the things that matter most without a firm structure for accountability and achievement.

Let me know what shows up for you as you read this. Even better is to email me your dreams and check back in as you accomplish these.
