How to Easily Build Habits – With Brian Tracy

"We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."
Socrates

Habits are crucial to our success in anything we do. Whether you want to lose 30 lbs, get in shape, or transform your relationship, the habits you create determine the quality of your life.

Often times, it’s the simple habits that make a big difference. Small things that are easy to do, and easy not to do. There are dozens of books on this concept. Books like The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson and The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy to show you how these consistent actions transform your life.

Brian Tracy has dozens of books on creating habits to create the life you want. Here he shows us how to create a habit in 7 steps. Most of us aren’t intentional about creating habits.  If you want to change your life, you have to change your habits.

Here’s my take on this:

At CadeFit, we use a very similar process to help people create lasting change.

You see, we don’t just want you to get quick results hopping on and off programs. We want you to follow through and live the life you deserve, with the body you want.

  1. The first step is to clearly see the type of habits and life that you want in the future. Not just that you don’t want to be overweight anymore
  2. Emotional Events correlates greatly with how we help you get leverage. If you want to change, you must be moved emotionally.Think of all the pain and cost of not changing. Then imagine the excitement and pleasure of successfully changing these habits.
  3. Condition the New Habits: Visualize the feelings and actions you want to feel in do. You are conditioning the emotions to happen more easily and effortlessly. (spend 3-5 minutes daily: maybe make it a habit :P)
  4. I love that he recommends to reward yourself. Just do this. Stop waiting for a big achievement. Day one of pushing fast food away, or exercising CELEBRATE IT!

Take Brian Tracy’s advice and start thinking of some new habits that will give you the life you deserve.
